How to cancel RAC

Free step-by-step cancellation guide

  1. RAC's own advice is to cancel by phone: call 0330 159 1111. Lines are open weekdays 8am to 7pm, Saturday 9.30am to 5pm, Sundays closed, and 9am to 5pm on bank holidays.
  2. Calling also gets any refund moving sooner. Do it even if you have paid by Direct Debit: cancelling the Direct Debit does not cancel the policy, in RAC's words, so you have to contact them to end the cover.
  3. On an annual continuous policy you can switch off auto-renewal yourself in your myRAC account settings; your cover runs to the expiry date instead of renewing. Everything else goes through the phone team.
  4. There is a 14-day cooling-off period from the start date or the day your documents arrive, whichever is later. If you have not needed a call-out, cancelling within it refunds the breakdown premium; up to £25 of the admin fee may be kept.
  5. After that, refunds are reduced for time on cover and up to £50 of the admin fee can be kept; if you have used the service, £85 per call-out is deducted. The figures are in RAC's policy booklet, and you will never be charged more than the total cost of your cover.

Keep track of your renewals before they charge you again.
