There is no official figure, so every number you see comes from a survey. One of the most recent is from Aqua, which asked 2,000 people aged 16 and over about their subscriptions and published the results in October 2025. The average came to £786 a year, about £65.50 a month. That average hides a wide spread: half of the people asked spent under £40 a month, and one in ten spent £200 or more.
So the number that matters is your own. We go through what UK subscriptions really cost in more detail separately.

How to find every subscription you pay for
Go through two or three months of bank and card statements, then the subscription lists in your Apple, Google Play, Amazon and PayPal accounts. Charges taken through an app store often show Apple or Google on your statement rather than the service, which makes them the easiest to miss. Our five-step subscription audit walks through it in order.
Once you have the list, decide what you still use and cancel the rest before the next renewal.
How to spot a duplicate subscription
Paying for the same thing twice is easier than it sounds. A service you signed up to on the web and again inside an app is billed twice, once by the service and once through Apple or Google. A family or household plan can sit alongside the personal plan it was meant to replace. And a free trial started with a second email address carries on as a second paid subscription.
Add every charge you find to the calculator, even ones that look like repeats. Anything on the list more than once is marked as a duplicate, and two services that do the same job, such as two VPNs, are flagged as an overlap. If the duplicate came through an app store, cancel it there: our cancel guides cover where each service keeps its subscription settings.
How the totals are worked out
Every price is turned into a monthly cost first. A yearly price is divided by 12 and a quarterly one by 3. A weekly price is multiplied by the average number of weeks in a month (about 4.35), not by 4, which would make every month look shorter than it is. The yearly total is the monthly total multiplied by 12.
Where you could save only uses what you entered: the same service added more than once, two services that do the same job (such as two VPNs or two password managers), your most expensive subscription, and monthly plans that might cost less paid yearly. A pound is never counted twice: a duplicate is set aside before overlaps are looked for. It never guesses a price you have not typed.
Monthly prices as yearly and weekly costs
Common monthly price points in pounds, worked out the same way as the calculator: a year is twelve months, and a week is the monthly price divided by about 4.35, the average number of weeks in a month.

Questions
Is anything I type saved or sent to SubCrisp?
Your list and prices stay in this browser, so they are still here if you come back on the same device, and we never see them. Logos load from our server, the same way they do in the app. If you save the list to SubCrisp, it is only sent once you have created your free account.
How do I turn a yearly subscription into a monthly cost?
Divide the yearly price by 12: a £95.88 annual plan costs £7.99 a month. Pick Annual when you add a service and the calculator does it for you. Whether the yearly plan is the better deal depends on how long you keep the service, as our guide to monthly vs yearly subscriptions explains.
What if a service is not in the list?
Type its name and pick "Add as your own service". We suggest a website from the name with the logo it brings up, and you can use it or type the real one. Logos are fetched the same way the app does it.
Can it spot duplicate subscriptions?
Yes. Add the same service twice and both entries are marked as duplicates, with what removing the extra one would save. It uses the same rule as the SubCrisp app, which keeps checking once your list is saved there.
What counts as a subscription?
Anything that charges you again automatically: streaming, music, software, cloud storage, AI tools, gyms, news, apps, delivery passes and recipe boxes. A free trial counts too, because it becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel in time.
Is the calculator free?
Yes, with no signup. SubCrisp itself is free too, with no ads, no bank login and no limit on how many subscriptions you track.
Can I use it in dollars, euros or another currency?
Yes. Pick your currency at the top of the calculator, from the same list of 87 the SubCrisp app uses, and the whole list and its totals follow it. It starts on a guess from your browser and remembers what you choose. The figures elsewhere on this page are UK ones, in pounds.
Can I put this calculator on my website?
Yes, for free, on any site including commercial ones. Copy one snippet from the calculator widget page and paste it into your article. It sets no cookies, and your readers’ lists stay in their own browsers.
